Known History:
Destiny's early history is still being researched.
It would appear that she has spent most, if not all of her life based in the West Country.
What we do know is that she was owned by Mr T Bickford of Saltash from the mid to late Eighties until 2005 or 2006. During that time she was sailed often and she raced regulary in the Plymouth Sound and often further afield. During his ownership Mr Bickford also added a completely watertight cockpit over her original mahogany coamings and cockpit. The original cockpit arrangement is still underneath and it would appear that it could easily be reinstated.
In 2006 Mr Bickford sold her and her new owner sailed her from Saltash to Teignmouth. Since then she has been laid up on the hard. Thankfully she has been very well covered up and water has been kept out of the bilge and she has had adeqate ventilation so it appears that she has not deteriorated too greatly during this time.
Like all the Morgan Giles builds, Destiny is an extremely well built boat constructed out of the best materials of the day.
DESTINY IS FOR SALE.....
She is now in need of some restoration work. This superb boat requires a new owner who is prepared to spend the time and money on bringing her back to the condition she deserves to be in.
However, once restored the owner will find themselves with a vessel that is a quick and capable passage maker. Accomodation space is greater than might be expected for her size.
It is fair to say that with at least 12 known vessels of the class remaining, many of them between the Solent and Lands End, she is very well worth restoring to her former glory.
A couple of WCOD's owners are interested in proposing a class rally/race, probably hosted from the port of Teignmouth in 2011. We will update the site when we know more.
The photos Destiny are not of great quality. Have a look at her sistership, FALANDA, her photos will give a clearer impression of her lines and the interior volume.
